Vape batteries are the same lithium technology as your phone — safe when treated right, problematic when abused. Six rules cover everything.
1. Never use a damaged device
Cracked bodies, dents, hissing sounds, unusual heat or a strange smell mean stop immediately. Place it on a non-flammable surface (ceramic tile, concrete) away from anything combustible and dispose of it at a battery recycling point.
2. Don’t leave devices in hot cars
Heat is lithium’s enemy. A device cooking in a summer car can vent, leak or degrade rapidly. Take your vape with you or store it cool.
3. Charge rechargeables on safe surfaces
If you use rechargeable devices, charge them on hard, non-flammable surfaces — not on beds, pillows or sofas — and never leave them charging unattended overnight.
4. Use the right charger
Low-power USB ports and quality cables are fine; fast-chargers designed for phones can push more current than small vape batteries want. When in doubt, charge from a computer port.
5. Keep contacts clean and dry
Pocket lint, liquid and moisture at the contacts cause most “device died” cases. A dry tissue wipe fixes what looks like a fault.
6. Store spares properly
Cool, dry, upright, away from metal objects that could short the terminals. Loose batteries/device rattling with keys in a pocket is a classic hazard.
