Every packet shouts a puff number. Almost no device delivers it exactly. Here’s why — and how to estimate what you’ll really get.
How puff counts are measured
Laboratory machines take short, consistent puffs — typically around one second each, at a fixed volume, with pauses. The count is simply how many of those puffs the e-liquid and battery support.
Why real life comes in lower
Humans puff differently: draws of 2–4 seconds, harder suction, and back-to-back sessions. A 3-second draw uses roughly double the e-liquid of the test puff. So a “3,500 puff” device realistically delivers 1,800–2,800 puffs depending on your style. That’s not a fault — it’s the same for every brand.
What actually runs out first
Two limits race each other: the e-liquid (flavour goes dry, then burnt) and the battery (device blinks and dies). A well-matched device finishes both nearly together.
How to compare devices fairly
- Use puff ratings as a ratio, not a promise: a 7,000-puff device lasts about twice a 3,500 one for the same vaper.
- Compare price ÷ rated puffs between devices for a quick value check.
- Track your own “days per device” — after two devices you’ll know your real number.
