The dreaded burnt hit is the most common complaint in vaping. Here’s the diagnostic flowchart.
Cause 1: The tank is empty
The #1 reason by far. Once e-liquid runs out, the wick scorches on a dry coil. If flavour faded over days and THEN went burnt — the device is finished. Replace it from the shop.
Cause 2: Chain-vaping dried the wick
Several puffs back-to-back outpace the wick’s ability to re-soak. Fix: rest the device 2–5 minutes between sessions, especially with sweet flavours which caramelize faster.
Cause 3: Cold weather
Thick e-liquid in winter wicks slowly. Warm the device in your hand for a minute before the first puff of a session.
Cause 4: A faulty or counterfeit device
A brand-new device tasting burnt from puff one is a manufacturing fault or a fake — genuine retailers replace these. This is why buying authentic stock matters.
Cause 5: Drawing too hard
Fierce, long drags pull liquid through faster than the coil can vaporise it cleanly. Shorter, gentler puffs taste better AND make devices last longer.
Quick rescue attempt
If the device still has liquid: rest it flat for five minutes (wick re-saturates), then take one slow, gentle puff. If the burnt taste persists after two attempts, the coil is scorched — it won’t recover.
